Why I Started The Lip Bar
In 2012, I launched The Lip Bar because I was incredibly frustrated with the beauty industry. I had so many questions. Why were most cosmetics filled with unnecessary chemicals? Why did lipsticks only come in a limited range of colors? And more importantly, why was the depiction of beauty so damn linear?
Everywhere I looked beauty companies, magazines, and the TV were telling women that you need to look like a specific thing to be considered beautiful. I hated that. So I started making lipstick in my kitchen because I believed beauty shouldn't compromise health and because I was determined to not change the way I looked to fit into some superficial or trendy beauty standard. Fuck that. There is no standard.
I always tell people, I'm not passionate about makeup. I'm a minimalist girl who believes a pop of color on the lips will give you enough confidence to take on the day and kick its ass! However, I am passionate about creating an inclusive narrative on what beauty is and reminding women that we don't have to settle for anything.
You are beautiful just the way you are. You don't have to transform to look like the next "It Girl." You don't have to do anything but be you, because you are enough. Simply put, I think every woman deserves to be represented.
So I do this not for the love of makeup, but for the love of women who are unapologetically themselves and the women working up the courage to be. So if you want to have beautiful, high performance products in the most amazing packaging, you have come to the right place. If you want vegan and cruelty free cosmetics that are affordable, you have come to the right place.
And if you want to feel like you belong to a beauty community that understands that there is no wrong way to do you, yes babe, you have come to the right place. That being said, Welcome to The Lip Bar, where we explore beauty through diversity and fun. I hope you follow us on this journey.
